Halic Imperial Shipyards (Tersane) is located on the Golden Horn. Its history dates back to the Byzantine period and has been used actively during the Ottoman empire as military and civil shipyards until 2001 when they were moved in new industrial sites at the city outskirts. The site is lease from the municipality for 49 years to Sembol Insaat and will be developed as a mixed use masterplan of about 320,000 sqm of rentable area.
MIC has developed in coordination with the design team a functional road network able to guarantee both a high level of accessibility to the site by all means and a quality public space. The historical nature of the site and its complex topography has been used as opportunities to create a vibrant and diverse environment able to mitigate the impact of vehicular traffic and to create a pedestrian friendly environment.
