The masterplan envisages the transformation of a brownfield in Viña del Mar into a mixed-use development, including residential, office, retail and leisure facilities, located along the coastal linear park. The goal is to create a new sustainable development, well interconnected with the surroundings, that could drive a renewal process for the whole urban area. The masterplan comprises of mixed-use functions: residential, hotel, convention centre, office and retail.
MIC was appointed as consultant for the definition of the transport strategies for the concept masterplan. The first part of the activity focused on the understanding of the context and planning framework and the trip flow generated and attracted by the development. The strategies were then developed for the preliminary road network design and dimensioning, public transport accessibility, parking provision and distribution, soft and alternative mobility enhancement.
The aim was to create a balanced and sustainable transport strategy for the master plan; a better pedestrian environment by minimizing car dominated areas; enhance walking strategy; reduce individual motorized traffic allowing efficient traffic movement.
